Members of the Bauhaus Movement (Architecture and Art) who fled Nazism, including former Director Hannes Meyer, 17 students trained at this school spread their teaching in Tel Aviv: stripped-down style, sobriety and rational shapes square or rectangular without flourishes . From 1931 to 1956, nearly 4,000 Bauhaus-style buildings were built in Tel Aviv, giving it a unique humanist architecture in the world in which man is placed at the center of his creations. The dwellings had first and foremost to be functional, simple, open to the outside, hence the importance of large balconies and terraces. The town was known as the White City, because the facades of the houses were covered with a plain white plaster. An important rehabilitation program for this authentic Bauhaus nature reserve was implemented for the Tel-Aviv centenary (1909-2009). In addition, the Bauhaus in Tel Aviv, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has the largest number of Bauhaus-inspired buildings in the world.
